Online Course Design Checklist

Online Course Design Checklist
July 22, 2022

When it comes to online courses, there are a lot of things that go into making them successful. You need to make sure that your content is engaging and interesting, and that you have the right tools in place to track student progress. But one of the most important aspects of online course design is creating a checklist for yourself. This will ensure that you don’t forget anything important when putting your course together. Here we will discuss the different items that should be included on your online course design checklist!

For designing online courses, there are a few key things that you need to keep in mind. First and foremost, your course must be visually appealing and easy to navigate. Additionally, it’s important to make sure that all of the necessary information is included. Otherwise, students may become confused or lost. Let’s get started!

Checklist

LMS: Your LMS (learning management system) is the backbone of your online course. It’s what you’ll use to upload and host your content, track student progress, and provide tests and quizzes. Make sure that you choose an LMS that is easy to use and navigate – p.s. we will talk about ours later!

Course Outline: Before you start designing your course, you need to have a clear outline of what it will entail. This will help you determine which topics to cover and how to structure your content.

Course Schedule: In addition to an outline, you’ll also need a schedule for your course. This will help you keep track of deadlines and ensure that you’re providing new content on a regular basis. It will also be helpful to provide estimated times for each section of the course so that participants know what to expect out of the schedule.

Learning Objectives: What do you want your students to learn from taking your course? Make sure that each lesson is focused on helping them achieve these objectives.

Engaging Content: Your content needs to be engaging and interesting, or students will quickly become bored. Use multimedia elements such as videos, infographics, and screenshots to break up the text and keep things exciting. The more relevant the material, the better the course.

Rubric: A rubric is a tool that will help you assess student progress and performance. It’s important to include a rubric in your online course so that participants know what is expected of them and how their work will be evaluated.

Assessments, Tests, and Quizzes: In order to gauge student understanding, you’ll need to include tests and quizzes throughout your course. These can be used to assess knowledge of specific topics or to provide practice with material that will be covered on a final exam or module. In order to track student progress, you’ll need to include assessments throughout your course. These can also include projects.

Student Interaction: Make sure that you provide opportunities for students to interact with each other. This could be in the form of discussion forums, chat rooms, or group projects.

Accessibility: Your course needs to be accessible to all students, regardless of their location or ability. Include closed captioning for videos, transcripts for audio files, and alternate text for images.

Learner and Tech Support: You need to provide support for students who are taking your course. This could be in the form of a FAQ section, office hours, or contact information for the instructor or tech support.

By following this checklist, you can be sure that you won’t forget anything important when designing your online course!

Now that we’ve gone over what should be included on your online course design checklist, let’s get started on actually creating your course! Remember to keep all of these elements in mind as you’re designing so that your course is the best it can be.
