To make myUdutu™ more pedagogically sound the udutu team drew upon lessons we learned from working on the previous learning and simulation tools we developed and deployed as University researchers.
KoolTool
A web-based self-directed learning application, KoolTool offers a simple, intuitive interface from which to deliver self-paced computer based training. With KoolTool, creating pages and editing existing content is a snap since the program does not require any programming skills or specialized technical knowledge.
This is an online, web server based authoring tool that works as easily as a desktop application, but allows all the stakeholders to work on the project anywhere, anytime. No longer are courses built in isolation. Even the most technologically challenged subject matter expert can easily build and edit content.
Logic
Learning-Object Case Study Generator project (LOGIC) is a scenario builder for problem-based learning activities that is available on its own or as a template within KoolTool, allowing the course designer to add a level of learning complexity by creating problem-based learning scenarios.
Developed in 2003 with the support of CANARIE (the federal advanced Internet development agency), LOGIC uses broadband technology and learning object repositories to produce complex and realistic scenarios, case-studies, or simulations. The Udutu team led the project, in collaboration with Royal Roads University, Telus, and The Justice Institute of BC.
CEDARlearning system
The CEDARlearning system was designed for developing and delivering the online learning courses of Royal Roads University in Victoria, British Columbia. CEDARlearning combined Macromedia Flash, Generator and Dreamweaver UltraDev to create a data-driven interface that imported and exported modularized course components personalized to the student or instructor, resulting in learner-centered, instructionally sound online courses.
MBA course
This data-driven course is offered to MBA students at Royal Roads University. Cedarlearning used Macromedia Generator and Flash to address the differences in learning style and prior knowledge through the dynamic delivery of the course content.
This course also demonstrated immersive learning techniques with a game like case study, and allowed users to approach the content in any one of four learning styles.
